As the proud sponsor of Paralympic handbiker Laura de Vaan, we always follow her races closely! This past weekend (12 & 13 May 2017), Laura performed amazingly in a number of races. On her website, Laura provides the following summary, which we are very proud to be able to share here:
"On Friday afternoon, Laura enjoyed her first World Cup victory this season in Maniago in Italy. She demoted the German Dorothee Vieth and fellow countrywoman Jennette Jansen to second and third place respectively, in the 11.4-kilometre time trial. “The trail seemed flat, but it really wasn’t”, Laura remembers. “The first section sloped down slightly and so there was a slight incline on the way back. And the finish line was on a cobblestone road, in wet conditions. There was an intense downpour midway throughout the trial. But although the competition was strong, there were only three of us, so none of us benefitted from or were disadvantaged by the weather”.
Laura may have only had two opponents, but they were highly skilled ones. As such, the victory was far from an easy one. “I feel like I am in good shape right now and I’m doing really well. Dorothee seemed to be doing a little worse than usual, but even so, she is never easy to beat. When I look at my own performance, I’d say this was a good time trial. The first section felt quite easy, which made me doubt whether I was maybe starting out too cautiously, but I was able to really get going on the way back. The final bit was tough though”. On Saturday, the road race will be held in Maniago.”
We would like to congratulate Laura on this amazing performance!
